Love your Look as Harry Potter and Friends
When you're at Hogwarts, magical things abound, but there's nothing more magical than getting together with family and friends for a bit of spellcasting. When you Love your Look as Harry Potter and all his friends, you'll take some of the best pictures to share with all the Muggles you know. No, they won't move on their own (unless they're gifs…) but we guarantee the 'likes' will be higher than even Dumbledore could predict. We hope you find some inspiration from the students here. Ten points to Gryffindor!
Harry Potter and Friends
Setting and posing are something every wizard must consider when attempting to look their best in the Wizarding World. For setting, find something like an old forest or very old structures made of stone to get that Hogwarts look. Posing is easy… wands out!
Harry here looks right off the classic book cover. Of course he has his lightning scar, and you can choose to make his glasses taped or not. We went with taped because it's pretty eye-catching. With robe, scarf, wand, and broom he's ready for a magical day. Oh, and see little Hedwig back there with some books? Props are a fantastic way to make your pictures come to life!
Much like Harry, Hermione here is all dressed for classes at the greatest school of witchcraft and wizardry, with her wand at the ready and owl and books all set. If the girl has long hair, trying curling it to look like Hermione's natural locks, or you can always try a wig. Either way, she will look like the smartest girl in Incantations class!
Gryffindor isn't the only house around. What's your favorite? We have them all. If you're more of a Ravenclaw girl, perhaps you'd like to portray the odd but affable Luna Lovegood? Our witch here has her wand at the ready in a striking pose, along with all the standard Ravenclaw garb: robe, tie, and scarf!
Harry Potter With Wand
Hogwarts has student prefects, they have a little more authority than usual, and thus, can have more freedom (to cast spells, make potions, and maybe get into some mischief). Our prefect here looks like he's out practicing some magic out near Hagrid's hut. The scarf, tie, glasses, and wand complete the ensemble.
Harry Potter and Luna Lovegood
Yep, becoming all your favorite characters from your favorite houses from your favorite books is pretty easy! We hope these pictures have given you some inspiration, and will assist you in your quest to become the greatest witches and wizards ever.
Hogwarts Houses Breakdown
Oh, the Sorting Hat! Once an object belonging to Godric Gryffindor's, this sentient magical artifact determines which one of the four houses a new student should belong to. The Sorting Hat may be a little, well, aggressive, but he rarely ever makes a mistake when it comes to selecting the perfect house for each student. We can't believe that this rhyming dusty hat is basically a genius, but it is! For instance, when the Sorting Hat was placed upon Harry's head, he kept repeating the name, 'Gryffindor,' over and over again. The Sorting Hat took that into consideration when deliberating, and surprisingly, Harry was able to call Gryffindor his House! If the talking hat was placed on top of your head, what house name would you whisper? Would you tell the Sorting Hat to shout out the name Hufflepuff or do you think your characteristics are better suited for the Ravenclaw House? Whatever house is most appealing to you, we sell decorative banners so you can represent the house the Sorting Hat would call out for you. Hang it up and you can pretend that you're a part of Harry's wizarding world!
Do you fancy yourself to be daring and chivalrous? If you think you have what it takes to hang out with Harry, Hermione, and Ron and battle trolls and other dark forms of magic, then the Gryffindor House just may be the one for you. Your House crest would be the lion because lions symbolize courage and strength, while your house colors would be gold and red, so we hope that you look good in those colors! Represent your Hogwart's House by hanging this Gryffindor banner in your office, den, or bedroom. You'll love the jagged edges on the banner and how convenient it is to hang just about anywhere. It does take a brave soul to wave this banner loud and proud, because if a Death Eater sees, you just may be in for a duel. Remember, a good Gryffindor knows to always keep their wand close-by!
Are you hoping that the Sorting Hat shouts out the silly word, Hufflepuff, once it has deciphered your place at Hogwarts? You'll only be admitted to this house if you're hard working, dedicated, patient, loyal, and of course, friendly. Hufflepuffs are always smiling and they could care less about who wins the Triwizard Tournament because competition just isn't their thing. They are represented by the badger and their house colors are yellow and black, which is what this cool banner depicts. If you are confident that you possess all the required Hufflepuff characteristics, then we think you should hang this officially licensed banner in your home office. You'll love how realistic it looks and it will add a touch of Hogwarts to any room, in fact you can make any room look like the Hufflepuff Common Room, which is awesome. Hang up this banner proudly and quickly, so you can head to the greenhouse and help the Head of your House, Pomona Sprout and pull up Mandrakes. Those little plants can scream loudly so cover your ears if you have to!
You know what the founder of Ravenclaw liked to say? 'Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure.' Students from Ravenclaw are particularly intelligent, wise, creative, logical, and extremely clever. In fact, the Sorting Hat was seriously considering placing Hermione into Ravenclaw because of her intelligence and all the smartest witches and wizards are put into this house. If you consider yourself to be quite the genius, then you'll love waving this Ravenclaw banner with pride. Some famous Ravenclaw members include Moaning Myrtle, Gilderoy Lockhart, Sybil Trelawney, and the eccentric Luna Lovegood, so you'll be in good company! This cool home decoration features a large raven on top of a blue background, which is the Ravenclaw house crest. We recommend hanging this officially licensed banner on the door of any room in your house or apartment. You can make any guest who wishes to enter figure out a riddle in order to get in, just like the Ravenclaw common room!
Sure, some muggles and wizards associate Slytherins with the Dark Arts, but Slytherin has actually bred a lot of talented wizards, (not including He Who Should Not Be Named). Students who are sorted into this house need to possess resourcefulness and ambition, while also exhibiting behavior that is extremely cunning. Of course, most of the wizards who are admitted into Slytherin come from a long line of pure-bred wizards, but the Sorting Hat has been known to let some half-bloods into the house, too. For example, Severus Snape and the infamous Tom Marvolo Riddle were half-bloods. If you feel like you would excel the best in this magical house, then you'll love this Slytherin banner, featuring a serpent and a green background. Hang it up with pride indoors or display it in a window of your house, just be prepared for muggle-born wizards to associate you with the Death Eaters. Just shrug it off, and let them know that you're a Slytherin not because of your pureblood association, but because you speak parseltongue like a champ and you're very cunning and ambitious.
Know your Wizarding World Wands
If you think you can walk inside of Ollivander's shop and pick out the first pretty wand that you see, then you are sorely mistaken, my magical friend! Wandlore is a complex and mysterious branch of magic that we don't understand entirely, but what we do know is that the wand does all the choosing. Be careful, because wands can also switch allegiances. For instance, you may purchase a wand that works great for you for a while but then chooses to work great for a new witch or wizard. They're such finicky magical instruments! A wandmaker uniquely crafts each and every wand by using these three distinguishing factors: the type of wood, its length, and the core material that runs through the wand. For example, one could have unicorn hair or a Phoenix feather running through their wand, but it's important to keep in mind that no two wands are exactly the same. It's no surprise that everyone here at Halloweencostumes.com is obsessed with Harry Potter and the wizarding community, so we designed an infographic that lists all of the wands that belong to the most important wizards. Yes, Lord Voldemort even made the list! Take a look at all the wand shapes, sizes, and colors. If you went to Hogwarts, what would your wand be made out of? Do you think your personal wand would resemble any of these?

Harry Potter Costume Accessories
Witches and wizards seem to have the coolest gadgets. They get to snack on the coolest treats like chocolate frogs that come to life and flavored jelly beans that can taste like anything...and we mean anything! They also get to experiment with Polyjuice potions and other cool items like Time Turners and Invisibility Cloaks. Of course, we wish that these objects were available in our muggle-world, but the sad reality is that we are just not magical enough to conjure up these creations. However, we were able to create accessories and props that look similar to the ones that Harry and his friends often use. Take a look at these cool items and use them to make your outfit a little bit more magical. You could also pair any of the items with your Harry Potter themed costume. Take a peek at these sweet accessories to see if you need to add one of them, or all of them, to your bewitching look!
It's true that Luna is a little, well, strange but she's also a phenomenal witch who put her life on the line to help Harry and his friends defeat Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters. If you want to dress up as the one and only Luna Lovegood, then we urge you to add these spectre specs to your costume. In the movies and books, Luna's wacky glasses that she got for free in an issue of The Quibbler, allowed her to see wrackspurts. According to Luna, wrackspurts are invisible creatures that float through one's ears causing their brain to go fuzzy, so she wears the colorful spectacles so she can detect the tiny pests. Pairing this accessory with your costume will give it some authority and other Potter fans will pay you compliments for wearing these cool glasses. If you happen to see any wrackspurts floating through the air, please let us know!
Everything in Harry's world is more magical than in the muggle world. Even their scarves are better than the ones we get to wear...that is, until now. When Harry is strolling through Hogsmeade Village with his pals, he's bundled up in his cold-weather accessories and he looks surprisingly stylish. Being stylish is really not something Mr. Potter is known for, but the famous wizard looks undeniably fashionable when he's wearing a long Gryffindor scarf. Now you can look just as dashing when you're strolling through your home village because you can wear a Gryffindor scarf too. Almost identical to the one Harry has wrapped around his neck, this officially licensed scarf is scarlet with gold stripes, and also features a Gryffindor House crest patch. Wear this scarf with a costume or with your winter coat so you have a little piece of Hogwarts with you wherever you go. You can even top off your look with a matching hat!
We often wish that we could be first years, entering Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, full of wonder and excitement. We think about what it would be like for Albus Dumbledore to call our names so we could sit in front of the whole school and have the Sorting Hat placed on our heads. We hope that the hat would shout out, 'Gryffindor,' but it could very easily place us into the Slytherin House. Now, you can have your own Sorting Ceremony in the comfort of your own home! This Sorting Hat looks exactly like the one in the Harry Potter movies. It is made to look old, so it is stitched up with patches. If you look closely, you can also see that a face is indented into the fabric. However, it doesn't speak. It looks like you're going to have to use your imagination if you want to make this Sorting Hat come to life!
Maybe you're not into sports so much, but if you're anything like us you would give literally anything to play in a Quidditch game. We daydream about becoming our team's top Seeker, catching the golden Snitch, winning the game, and hearing all of Hogwarts cheer for us. Now our dreams (and most likely your dreams too) can come true! This officially licensed Harry Potter broomstick resembles the Nimbus 2000, but we hear that it's actually faster than the Nimbus 2001! You'll love showing off the gold wing accessories attached to the back and the detailed broom handle. You'll make all the other House Seeker jealous when you zoom by, dodging Bludgers on this beautiful broom. You can use this cool prop as a decoration in your house or you can really meet up with some other Potter fans at a park and get a game of Quidditch going. We have a feeling that you'll be the standout star of the game when you wiz past the other players on your shiny new broomstick!
Famous Wizarding World Spells
Do you ever point at the plate of mashed potatoes at the end of the table and shout out, 'Accio!' Does everyone at the table look at you like your nuts? Don't worry, we understand! We know that you're just using the summoning charm to bring the mashed potatoes to your side of the table, but sometimes muggles just don't understand.
If you're ever in a bind, try using the spell 'Expecto Patronum!' to conjure your own patronus. Before you know it, your spirit animal will come running in to act as a guardian when you're in need of being saved. This is the most famous and most powerful defensive charms known to wizardkind.
You'll never have to worry about carrying around a lighter or a book of matches if you get good at using the popular fire-making spell, 'Indendio!' This spell allows you to produce a ball of flames that can set basically anything ablaze.
You'll never have to worry about being afraid of the dark ever again, once you learn this next popular spell. Next time you can't find the light switch, just shout up the spell, 'Lumos!' because it's a wand-lightening charm that illuminates the tip of the castor's wand so that they can see even in the pitch dark.
This next spell is one that we would like to use every once in a while. 'Obliviate' is a charm that makes a person forget everything that was just previously done or mentioned. We would shout this one out every time we accidentally did something embarrassing...which is quite a bit!
Finally, we can't forget the levitating charm, 'Wingardium Leviosa!' Ron and Harry might have had some trouble with this one their first year, but practice makes perfect. Now, the two are levitating champs! Just keep practicing; you'll be a spell-casting pro before you know it.
