Southern charm
While there was a lot wrong with the antebellum South, one thing they got right was the ladies’ beautiful fashions. These women took “go big or go home” to an all new level, with hoop skirts so wide that they sometimes couldn’t even walk through the door! Sometimes, five whole yards of fabric were needed for the voluminous skirts, and it could take days of work to create a complete outfit.
Then, when a stylish belle finally received her dress, it was quite another process to actually put it on. There were the undergarments, the petticoats, the crinolines, the hoops, the underskirt… and the dreaded corset! All that had to go on first before the gown could even put worn. Then there was the detachable collar and all the accessories, like flowers for your hair and beautiful jewelry. We guess southern belles really knew how to suffer for fashion!

Thankfully, your charming southern belle doesn’t have to worry about trading comfort for style at her next ball with this beautiful Kid’s Lovely Southern Belle Costume. (It’s all there in the name!) This exclusive costume features dark pink flowers in an all over print on a lighter pink background. The dress is 100 percent polyester calico and chiffon fabrics, with a back zipper for easy wear. It features fashionable puffed sleeves with ruffled chiffon cuffs, eyelet edging at the square neckline, and white lace strips on the skirt. There’s also a triangular chiffon scarf that can be tied as desired. (Note: The gloves and parasol shown in the photo are each sold separately.)
