Keepin' it Cozy
Forest creatures know what's up when it comes to staying cozy. They have to live in the woods all through the winter, so they've learned a few things over the years. Squirrels start getting ready for winter by August, gathering nuts, carbo-loading on corn, and stuffing their tree hollows with leaves and milkweed fluff. Bears dig themselves a little den and after loading up on healthy fats from salmon and honey, they doze off for months on end. And foxes? Well, they know what's up as well. They might not sleep the winter away, they're too playful for that. Instead, they're experts at hearing their prey scrabbling around, feet under the snow. They'll leap up and pounce on a mouse that other predators wouldn't even guess was there. And once they've gotten lunch, they head back to their dens that are waiting nice and warm.
