Wild Couples Costumes: Animals, Monsters, Cryptids, & Creature Pairings

Animal Couples Costumes

Welcome to part three of our Couples' Countdown. Parts one and two already dropped this week. This round goes straight into the woods, the swamp and the night sky. Today's pairs come from the animal kingdom, old myths and campfire legends. Some are classic matches. Others are twists you will not see coming. A few are just plain weird, and we say that with love. Animals and monsters are already a must-have option when it comes to Halloween and other costume fun. So, let's make it even wilder!

Not sure where to start? Our Most Popular Halloween Costumes of 2026 post shows what people are wearing right now. You can also dive right into our Couples costume ideas if you already know the direction you want to take. But, if you're ready to go wild, we are going off the beaten path. Way off!

Animal Costumes

Animal couples' costumes are the easiest way to look great together. Pick two animals that go together, or two that clash in a fun way. You get comfort, color and a built-in conversation starter. Animal looks also fit every body, age and budget. Many come as soft jumpsuits, tutus, hoods or full-body outfits. That means warm layers for a chilly night and room to dance at a party. Our own pet-loving shoppers know this well.

Monsters, Myths, and Cryptid Costumes

Monster couples' costumes let you play with the spooky side of Halloween. These are creatures from old myths, scary movies and campfire stories. Everyone knows them, and everyone loves a good legend. A cryptid is a creature that people say they have seen, but nobody has proved is real. That makes them perfect for couples' costumes, since each one comes with a built-in mystery. Our Greek Gods Costumes post covers more ancient legends if you want to go full myth but, either way, monsters let you be dramatic in a big way.

1. Trash Panda

Shop the look: Raccoon costumes | Trash can costumes

Raccoon and trash can is the classic "trash panda" pair, and it works in one glance. Raccoons are famous for raiding bins at night with their clever little hands. Their black face mask looks like a tiny bandit disguise. So one of you plays the thief, and the other plays the scene of the crime. It is a simple, funny setup with a lot of charm. Snack tables become your stage, and the photos write themselves.

Make it a group: Build a whole alley gang. Let a kid be a baby raccoon holding a bag of fake snacks. Add a friend as a second trash can. Ask another pal to be the night guard with a flashlight and a very tired face.

2. Medusa and Stone Warrior

Shop the look: Medusa Costumes | Stone Warrior Costume | Greek and Roman Costumes

In Greek legend, Medusa was a Gorgon with snakes for hair. One look at her turned people into stone. So the warrior costume is not random. It shows what happens to a hero who stares a little too long. One of you is the monster, and the other is the proof of the legend! Strike a pose at parties. The warrior freezes mid-battle, sword up and mouth open. Medusa glares and shrugs. People will laugh, then snap a photo, then ask you to do it again.

Make it a group: Turn the party into a Greek legend. Add a friend as a second frozen hero. Let a kid play a baby snake with a hissing sound. Ask a taller friend to dress as Zeus, watching from above like a very unimpressed boss.

3. Sasquatch and Mothman

Shop the look: Bigfoot Costumes | Adult Mothman Costume | Scary Costumes

Sasquatch and Mothman is the ultimate cryptid couple. Sasquatch is the giant, hairy figure said to roam the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Mothman comes from West Virginia legend, with glowing red eyes and big wings. One walks the woods, and the other haunts the sky. Together, you cover the whole campfire story from tree to treetop. Will you hide from the mortals who eagerly seek to snap your photos or will you stand out and become the mythological star you were destined to be? We know what we recommend!

Make it a group: Start a cryptid hunting club. Let one friend be the field researcher with a clipboard and a flashlight. Dress a kid as a tiny Bigfoot. Add another friend as a second Mothman, so the sky feels crowded. Everyone points at the sky at the same time.

4. Alien Abduction

Shop the look: Alien Costumes | Cow Costumes

Here we have the sci-fi pair that tells a whole story without a word. In classic UFO tales, cows are the farm animals that get beamed up under a glowing light. Why? Honestly, we have no idea. But when you take on these looks, you can find an answer all your own. One of you is the visitor from space, and the other is the very confused cow who just wanted to graze. It is silly, sweet and easy to spot across a crowded room. This pair is out of this world, and the cow will get the biggest laughs. It is udderly simple.

Make it a group: Build a full midnight pasture. Dress a kid as a baby calf with a tiny bell. Add a friend as a second alien with a clipboard for "research." Ask a grandparent to play the sleepy farmer in overalls, holding a flashlight and a very confused stare.

5. Supernatural Walk

Shop the look: Terror Dog Costume | Fire Hydrant Costume | Ghostbusters Costumes

We were going to suggest a fire hydrant and a dog costume for this section but we though, "Hey, we can go weirder, here." So, we did. Supernaturally weird. A Terror Dog and a fire hydrant is the classic dog walk with a demonic twist. In Ghostbusters (1984), Terror Dogs are demon dogs that guard a temple atop a New York apartment building. Two of them, Zuul and Vinz Clortho, serve the god Gozer. Here, one of you is the snarling demon dog. The other is the very nervous fire hydrant. We know where this joke is going, and so do you.

Make it a group: Give both demon dogs a home. Let two friends play one dog each. Add a Ghostbuster in a jumpsuit chasing them. Dress a kid as a second, very brave hydrant. Everyone gets a role, and the sidewalk becomes a movie set.

6. Cryptid Cousins

Shop the look: Bigfoot Costumes | Yeti Costume

Bigfoot and Yeti are cryptid cousins, and they make a cozy furry duo. Bigfoot is said to roam the forests of North America, while the Yeti is the snowy legend of the Himalayas, often called the Abominable Snowman. Both are big, hairy and very shy. So this is a family reunion between two lost relatives. One of you wears the forest fur, and the other brings the mountain chill.

Make it a group: Host a cryptid family picnic. Dress a kid as a baby Sasquatch holding a snack basket. Add a friend as a lost hiker with a map and a very shaky camera. Let a second adult be the Yeti's grumpy uncle, arms crossed, refusing to smile for the photo.

7. Sharknado

Shop the look: Shark Costumes | Tornado Costume

Shark and tornado is a pair with a real movie behind it. Sharknado (2013) is the TV movie where a storm flings sharks across Los Angeles. That makes this duo a fan wink and a silly mash of nature at once. One of you is the toothy star. The other is the swirling storm that carries the party. It is loud, odd, and easy. This pair has plenty of bite, and the tornado will blow everyone away.

Make it a group: Build a full disaster movie cast. Dress a kid as a baby shark who rides along. Add a friend as a storm chaser with a toy camera and a raincoat. Ask a grandparent to be the news reporter, holding a mic and shouting about the weather. Add some Twister costumes for a true movie mash-up!

8. A Supernatural Pair

Shop the look: Werewolf Costumes | Inflatable Moon Costume

Werewolf and moon is a pair with a perfect cause and effect. In classic monster lore, a werewolf changes shape under a full moon. So one of you is the hairy beast. The other is the bright reason it all happened. It is a spooky story told in two costumes. The moon gets to be the quiet boss of the night, and the werewolf gets to be the loud, howling star. It makes an even better pairing if your werewolf dresses in layers, transforming throughout the night!

Make it a group: Fill the whole night sky and the woods below. Dress a kid as a little werewolf pup who howls on cue. Add a friend as a twinkling star. Let a grandparent play the nervous villager with a lantern, peeking out from behind a door.

9. Garden Gnome and Flower

Shop the look: Gnome Costumes | Flower Costumes

Garden gnome and flower is the sweetest pair in this whole post. Gnomes are the little fairy figures that guard lawns and flower beds. So one of you is the tiny guard with a pointy hat. The other is the bloom it protects. It is a cozy, cute story with zero scary parts. It also works in any season, which is handy.

Make it a group: Grow a whole garden. Dress a kid as a tiny flower bud. Add a friend as a second gnome who argues with the first about who guards what. Ask a grandparent to be the gardener with a straw hat and a watering can. Bring the whole supernatural scene to life!

10. Holy Cow!

Shop the look: Angel Costumes | Cow Costumes

And here is the fun that comes with the puns. Say "Holy cow!" and the joke is done. One of you floats in with a halo and wings. The other chews calmly in black and white spots. It is a sweet, silly match that needs no backstory... but that doesn't stop you from inventing one. Did you hear the one about the divine bovine? How about the pastoral priest? This pair is a little bit udderly divine, and it is easy to wear all night.

Make it a group: Fill the whole pasture in the clouds. Dress a kid as a baby calf with a tiny bell. Add a friend as a second angel with a harp. Ask a grandparent to be the farmer who looks up and says the famous line out loud.

11. A Supernatural Rivalry

Shop the look: Vampire Costumes | Inflatable Sun Costume

Vampires and the sun. It is the rivalry that never ends. In classic monster lore, vampires fear daylight, so the sun is their worst enemy. One of you is the pale, caped count who hides in the shadows. The other is the big, bright star who will not go away. It is a spooky feud told in two costumes, and the sun clearly has the upper hand. The sun follows the vampire around the room. The vampire hisses, shields his eyes and slinks away. Better bring those snacks or it's time to shine, Dracula!

Make it a group: Stage a full day-versus-night showdown. Dress a kid as a tiny bat who flaps away from the sun. Add a friend as a second vampire hiding behind a cape. Ask a grandparent to hold a big umbrella as the vampire's very smart helper.

12. Fish on Land!?

Shop the look: Lifeguard Costumes | Shark Costumes

Usually, when you see sharks and lifeguards, one is protecting a bunch of humans from the other. That's what we get for diving into the deep where the biggest fins are the rulers of the waves. But it's time to change things up once those sharp-toothed fishies come wandering around on the land. Time for the lifeguard to give them a tour around the place. It is a fin-tastic setup, and the shark is in way over its head.

Make it a group: Open a whole beach patrol. Dress a kid as a baby shark who tries to sneak past. Add a friend as a second lifeguard with a rescue buoy. Ask a grandparent to be the beachgoer in a sun hat, pointing and shouting about the fin.

13. Pirate and Parrot

Shop the look: Pirate Costumes | Parrot Costumes

Pirates and parrots are the oldest sidekick deal on the seven seas. In pirate stories, a bird on the shoulder is a classic part of the look. It squawks, it steals the scene, and it never pays its share of the loot. So, how do you twist the pair to tell a totally new story? Well, let the parrot be the one leading the scene. Ever heard of "Talk Like a Parrot Day!?" It's time to invent it in your next social scene! It is a squawk of genius, and you will have a real treasure of a time.

Make it a group: Launch a whole pirate crew. Let a kid be the cabin boy or girl with a treasure map. Add a friend as a second pirate who is always hungry. Ask a grandparent to play the ship's cook, stirring a pot and ignoring the squawking.

14. Fisherman and Mermaid

Shop the look: Fisherman Costumes | Mermaid Costumes

Sailors have told stories about mermaids for centuries. Most tales have the sea folk luring boats off course. Here the story flips. One of you is the patient angler who finally got a bite. The other is the shimmering surprise on the end of the line. Nobody expected this catch, least of all the fisherman! Who knows where the story goes next. Will the siren sing the sailor back into the seas or is it time for the mermaid to learn what it is like to walk around on land? It is a reel-ly good match, and you will be hooked on the laughs.

Make it a group: Cast a whole fishing trip. Dress a kid as a little fish who leaps out of the water. Add a friend as a second mermaid who is not caught at all. Ask a grandparent to be the old sailor who swears this happens every year.

15. Princess and Frog

Shop the look: Princess Costumes | Frog Costumes | Disney Princess Costumes

In the old story of The Frog Prince, a princess meets a frog who turns out to be more than he seems. Disney gave the idea a new spin in The Princess and the Frog (2009). But you can give the story a whole new chapter. Who says the frog needs to be princely at all? In fact, the right kind of frog costume is quite a bit cuter... and maybe more cozy, too. Whether the story is just starting for the big Prince reveal or if you make a better animal companion, this look is a great way to start your story. It is toad-ally charming, and nobody will croak under pressure.

Make it a group: Fill the whole kingdom and the pond. Dress a kid as a tiny tadpole who follows the frog. Add a friend as a second princess who is not impressed. Ask a grandparent to be the king or queen, watching with a very royal frown.

16. Bee Tenant and Beekeeper Landlord

Shop the look: Bumblebee Costumes | Busy Beekeeper Costume

We all know the gig. A beekeeper tends the hive, wears a veil and moves slow so nobody gets stung. A bee buzzes around, busy and bold, eager to do some pollenation in their well-kept hive while the keeper is rewarded with the golden treat. So, take it up a notch and go full tenant and landlord partnership. Go fetch even bigger sweets and make that hivelord do some upkeep on your space for once! It is a honey of a pair, and you will be the bee's knees.

Make it a group: Build a whole hive. Dress a kid as a tiny worker bee with a honey jar. Add a friend as the queen bee with a gold crown and a very bossy wave. Ask a grandparent to be the honey seller, holding a sign for "fresh and sticky."

17. Before and After

Shop the look: Chicken Costumes | Easter Egg Costume

Chicken and egg is the oldest riddle in the book. Which one came first? Nobody has settled it, and that is the fun. It is well worthy of some celebration, so adding a little Easter color makes it even brighter. Take it up a notch with the idea of a race. Team up with the tortoise and the hare or the acorn and the tree to bring the entire saga to an epic finish line. This pair is egg-cellent, and it never gets old. Just do not crack under pressure.

Make it a group: Start a whole farmyard. Dress a kid as a fluffy baby chick who follows the chicken. Add a friend as a second egg with a different pattern. Ask a grandparent to be the farmer who counts eggs and looks confused about the numbers.

18. Before and After, Again!

Shop the look: Caterpillar Costumes | Butterfly Costumes

We all know the natural evolution of the curious bug's lifespan. A caterpillar eats leaves, builds a chrysalis and comes out with wings, transforming into the butterfly that captivates us all with its color. But... can they hang out together!? Of course, they can! One of you is the before shot. The other is glow-up. It is a gentle, colorful pair with a happy ending. Everyone loves a good makeover story, and nature wrote this one. It works for kids, teens and grown-ups alike, so everyone can join.

Make it a group: Grow a whole garden of change. Dress a kid as a tiny cocoon in the middle, wrapped in soft gray fabric. Add a friend as a second butterfly with different colors. Ask a grandparent to be the gardener who gasps at every new wing.

19. Cat and Burglar

Shop the look: Cat Costumes | Burglar Costumes

Cat and burglar is the classic "cat burglar" pun in costume form. The phrase has nothing to do with pets. It means a thief who sneaks in quietly, and cats are famous for that kind of stealth. But this is about wild and crazy costume pairings, so it is time to team up to steal the scene together! Sly feline and masked crook combine to act out the idiom, swipe a snack, steal the party's mascot pet, and look innocent while doing it. It is a purr-fect crime, and you will steal the show without a single getaway car.

Make it a group: Plan a full heist. Dress a kid as a kitten who "helps" by knocking things over. Add a friend as a second burglar who is the lookout. Ask a grandparent to be the sleepy night guard, snoring in a chair with a flashlight.

20. Unexpected Pair: Kermit the Frog and a Regular Pig

Shop the look: Kermit the Frog Costumes | Pig Costumes | TV and Movie Costumes

Play an epic twist on a famous romance. Kermit is the calm leader of The Muppets, and his on-again, off-again love is Miss Piggy. Here, she is swapped out for an ordinary pig. So one of you is the famous green star. The other is a plain pink farm animal who has no idea what is going on. Are you going to make Miss Piggy jealous or prove that this is simply a hamazing mix-up, and the pig will totally steal the spotlight. Nobody will be sure who is more confused.

Make it a group: Build a whole variety show. Dress a kid as a little frog who hops beside Kermit. Add a friend as a second pig who is jealous of the first. Ask a grandparent to play the stage manager with a clipboard and a headset, pointing at the wrong pig.

21. Gnome and Mushroom

Shop the look: Gnome Costumes | Mushroom Costumes

We just talked about the cute little gnomes dwelling in the garden. But if you want to go with a more forested look, there are plenty of other ways to bring out the magic. This version includes the tiny, bearded folk of garden and woodland tales. Mushrooms are where they love to hang out. In many old stories, gnomes sit under big red toadstools. So, bring this look to life. You are a fun-gi pair, and everyone will want to spore the details.

Make it a group: Grow a whole fairy ring. Dress a kid as a tiny mushroom with a matching cap. Add a friend as a second gnome who keeps a secret map. Ask a grandparent to be the forest wizard with a long cloak and a tall staff.

22. Unexpected Pair: Miss Piggy and an Ordinary Frog

What happens when Miss Piggy gets jealous? Well, she gets even, of course! As the glamorous diva of The Muppets, she shines even brighter when standing next to a frog with just a bit less comic timing than Kermit is known for. It is a ribbiting mix-up, and the frog should not leap into anything. Every guest will wonder who is more lost.

Make it a group: Put on a full Muppet-style show. Dress a kid as a tiny frog who hops behind the big one. Add a friend as Kermit the Frog, who is very surprised to see the plain frog. Bring Fozzie and the rest along for the ride, plus a bunch of other animal friends. It's a whole new show in no time!

23. Wolf and Sheep

Shop the look: Wolf Costumes | Sheep Costumes

The wolf and sheep are the classic predator and prey pair, with a famous idiom hiding inside. A "wolf in sheep's clothing" is someone who looks harmless but is not. But when you're both wearing costumes, already, you can play this up in plenty of new ways. Is one of you the sly stalker while the other plays the fluffy flock member... or is the sheep calling the shots and making the wolf go fetch all the snacks!? It is a wool-ly good time, and you will not be a lone wolf.

Make it a group: Build a whole flock and one very hungry pack. Dress a kid as a little lamb who skips ahead. Add a friend as a second wolf who is bad at hiding. Ask a grandparent to play the shepherd with a staff, counting sheep and getting the number wrong.

24. Hunter and Deer

Shop the look: Hunter Costumes | Deer Costumes

The hunter and deer are a classic pair for a few reasons. Obviously, there is the whole Bambi story, which we probably want to avoid. Then there is the famous freeze-frame. "Deer in the headlights" describes someone who is too startled to move. But when you show up in costume, perhaps this is a story that is more silly than scary. The hunter is clumsy and polite. The deer is dramatic and provides the chase. This pair is a dear idea, and it is no fawn-tasy to pull off. You will be buck-ing the trend.

Make it a group: Fill the whole forest trail. Dress a kid as a tiny fawn with wobbly legs. Add a friend as a second deer who is also frozen. Ask a grandparent to be the park ranger with a whistle, waving everyone back to the path.

25. Mothman and Lightbulb

Shop the look: Mothman Costume | Light Bulb Costume

This final one is maybe the most unhinged of the collection. We know that moths are attracted to bright lights. Well... does the curiosity hold true when we're talking about a man-sized mothy cryptid!? Dress as a bright lightbulb and see if your companion red-eyed cryptid soars into action. It is a bright idea, and you will be the talk of the room.

Make it a group: Start a moth swarm. Dress a kid as a tiny moth with soft gray wings. Add a friend as a second bulb in a different color. Ask a grandparent to be the porch owner who keeps flipping the switch on and off.

Couples' Countdown

Part three of the Couples' Countdown is done. You met 25 pairs from the woods, the farm, the sea and the night sky. Some were classic matches. Some were twists. All of them work because the joke lands fast, and you can pull one off with two friends and a snack table. The best couples' costumes are the ones you both enjoy wearing. Pick a pair that makes you laugh while you shop. Then plan your poses, your lines and your group extras. Add a kid, a friend or a grandparent, and your duo becomes a whole cast.

Part four is the wildest yet. We are talking especially ridiculous, bonkers pairings that will make guests do a double take. If this post made you grin, the next one may make you gasp. Want to see what people are wearing right now? Check our Halloween Costumes 2026 hub.
