You may be asking yourself, what is trunk or treat?

Well, In the mid-1990s, the original versions of trunk or treat took form. Churches looking to offer a safer way to enjoy traditional trick-or-treating organized their congregations to park their cars in the lot, decorate their car trunks, and hand out candy as they would typically on October 31st. It worked! Families saw plenty of perks to the alternative Halloween activity. It saved both parents and children from the could-be exhausting walk through neighborhoods and provided more to do and more to see at each stop. With trunks decorated in a variety of kid-friendly and spooky ways and handing out candies along with the opportunity to play a game at some, there was simply more to enjoy!

Chances are you’ve seen a school, church, or community center offering a trunk or treat event on or around Halloween night. But when it’s your turn to participate, you may not be sure where to start. That’s where we come in! Whether you’re looking for easy trunk or treat ideas or the best trunk or treat ideas, we’ve got you covered! Trunk or treat decoration ideas are, honestly, endless. Sure, you only have the boot of your car to work with, but if you can dream it, we can help bring it to life. All you need is to understand the space you’re working with. Trunk or treat car decorations aren’t all that different than the pieces you’d use to actualize trunk or treat ideas for trucks, but a human-sized animatronic may not fit as well on a sedan as it will an open truck bed.

So, let's start with trunk or treat car ideas! Here, given your craftiness and available space, you’ll want to stick to smaller decorations. Are you working with a tiny trunk? Turn that small but mighty boot into a witch’s potion room. Cauldrons, prop mice, electronic candles, and even fake spider webs make even a micro-space impactful. And with a cauldron in the center of your display, you can either fill it with candy or a fog machine for a truly enchanting display. Just make sure if you choose the fog, the trick-or-treaters know where they can still claim their sweets.

Need something bigger? Try our larger hanging props or animated characters. In the back of a truck, you could build a mini graveyard with various faux tombstones. Pop the hatchback on your SUV and transform all that stow-and-go capacity into a pirate’s ship, complete with an inflatable treasure chest.

Want some super easy trunk or treat ideas for SUV, truck, or car? Try our trunk or treat decorating kits! Simple to put together and take down, our selection will have your vehicle looking excellent with little effort! And with options including Marvel and Paw Patrol, you’re sure to draw a crowd!
