Navigating the Underworld
The Egyptian underworld is a complicated place. Spirits that passed through would have to navigate all sorts of obstacles including strange creatures, gatekeepers, and a total of 42 divine judges. Smart souls would study the book of the dead to plead their case with the right terms in order to convince the judges to overlook their earthly wrongdoings. After that intimidating ordeal, the souls would then go on to get their hearts weighed against the feather of truth. If all that went well, the souls would be welcomed into the afterlife by Osiris. Of course, only royalty went through this process with Anubis by their side. So, this year, if you're heading to the Egyptian underworld as a mummy, make sure you're treated like a king and bring this Anubis staff with you.
