Few movies have touched our heart like The Princess Bride. That film had everything! It had a handsome leading man who was daring and skilled with a sword. It had a gripping love story between farm boy, Westley, and his true love, Buttercup. It had Inigo Montoya's story of betrayal and revenge. It had some jerk named Humperdinck being a total bully and it even had Billy Crystal, being his funny self. Oh and did we mention that the movie has Andre the Giant? Because it does. Yeah, it's pretty easy to see why we love this movie and why we went about gathering together the best costumes for The Princess Bride!

Our Princess Bride costumes include all of the best characters from the movie, like Westely, Inigo Montoya and Buttercup. Once you have one of them on, you can recreate scenes from the movie, or act out your very own sequel to the events of the movie. Does Inigo become the Dread Pirate Roberts? Do Westley and Buttercup live happily ever after? Those are all the questions that you get to decide when you wear one of these licensed outfits.

Princess Bride Halloween Costumes

What do you want from your Halloween adventures this year? How about fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, and miracles? No, not real torture! Getting years sucked from your lifespan by a mysterious medieval machine is no way to celebrate All Hallows Eve. But when you and your friends are donning Princess Bride costumes, there's no better time to break out those fencing moves you've secretly been working on in your basement (bonus points for refusing to use your dominant hand with Bonetti's Defense). The classic The Princess Bride provides plenty of over-the-top tomfoolery for your night out and plenty of suave quotes just in case anyone calls you out for getting too into character. Whether you and your company are dressing up as the three ruffians storming the castle to restore true love and gain revenge or you're pairing up with your very own farm boy to celebrate your undying bond, everyone is sure to find the perfect costume in this collection!

Princess Bride Couples Costumes

It’s harrowing when that one elusive thing always seems just out of your grasp. No, we’re not talking about the McRib sandwich. We're talking true love, sillies! The fearless power couple Westley and Buttercup go through more than your average couple, just so they can be together. We don't know anyone else fictional or otherwise who's had a partner that's both been kidnapped by pirates and died via "The Machine" only to come back and rescue his love from imminent downfall!

The Fire Swamp Ensemble

The Fire Swamp Ensemble

You've got options when it comes to Princess Bride dresses, but there's one combination that jumps to mind when we think of this romantic duo. Pair up the Princess Bride “Man in Black” costume and the classic Princess Buttercup red dress as they celebrate their tumultuous reunion after a wild escape through the Fire Swamp. Don't think you can't survive a journey through that treacherous landscape just because no one has, just watch out for sneaky R.o.U.S.es. It turns out, they exist! For that full adventure effect, let your Rodent of Unusual Size tag along on your fancy dress night out. And hey, if Buttercup succumbs to the lightning quicksand, make sure your Westley costume is on tight because you're going to dive head first after her. Cary Elwes nailed that dive on the first try. We think his success had something to do with his dashing ensemble. Then again, we might be a little biased.

Monarchy Malarkey

Monarchy Malarkey

If you want a taste of the royal life, you could go a dignified direction and don the elegant Princess Bride wedding dress. Don't worry, we won't expect you to marry Prince Humperdinck, though appearing together would be an interesting take on a Princess Bride couple's costume! If he does show up on the scene, the stuck-up royal had better be ready to fight to the pain, whatever that is. Don the pretty Princess Buttercup wig to make the look complete and you're sure to feel storybook ready. And hey, if you find yourself getting tugged through a royal wedding without your consent, don't worry! If you didn't say "I do" then it doesn't count. Your true love is sure to show up sooner than later, and you're still free to jump on that white horse and gallop into the sunset.

Princess Bride Costumes for Kids

If your kids are keen on great one-liners and awesome adventures, then they are probably fans of this wild and wonderful 90s classic. Your children will enjoy feeling their cultural relevance and fairy tale chivalry points go up at the same time. All they need to do is don a Princess Bride Westley costume or a classic Princess Buttercup costume. Once they conquer their suave line delivery, they're sure to get a bumper crop of sweets in those little plastic pumpkins!

Westley Costume

Westley Costume

The art of becoming a suave character starts early. A declaration of love as smooth as continuously saying "as you wish" doesn't come naturally. It's learned from 90s classic movies. Yep, only 90s classics, there's no other way to learn to become a smooth operator. Kids can't learn it from books and they certainly can't learn it from movies of this century. Okay, honestly, we're just joshing! There are all sorts of ways to learn to be suave but if your child dresses up as Westley when he's still a child then he's sure to grow up with all sorts of chivalrous quips up his billowy sleeves. To guarantee the enrichment of his heroic spirit, just make sure the ensemble includes a sword and the Dread Pirate Robert's Mask. They're so terribly comfortable, we think everyone will be wearing them in the future.

Buttercup Peasant Dress

Buttercup Peasant Dress

Even though Ms. Buttercup is the most beautiful woman in the world, her favorite pastimes are pretty tough. She loves to ride horses and to torment the farm boy. So, it's no wonder that she took on the Fire Swamp with so much confidence. Not many Princesses have had a chance to take on a Rodent of Unusual Size but Buttercup knows how to use a large stick to her advantage! This quintessential red dress is from the dramatic kidnap-and-escape scene that we all know and love. We don't just love this character for her legendary looks, though: Princess Buttercup has some pretty sweet lines. Just try taking your kid's candy away at the end of the night. You might be met with some resistance and a sassy retort such like "You can't hurt me. My candy and I are joined by the bonds of love!" Strong words to defend a bucket of candy. She walked the entire neighborhood in character for that precious sugar, she's not going to give it up easily!

Princess Bride Group Costume

If you want to dress up with a bunch of friends, there's no better group costume than the cast of Princess Bride characters. Whether you're heading out with two friends or ten friends, you'll all have a blast with your characters. You can put together as big a group as you want with the endless, entertaining secondary characters or the less obvious main characters. (Narrator Grandpa and Grandson, anyone?) Throw fantastic quotes back and forth as you run all over town getting instantly recognized by children of the 90s wherever you go. There's something for everyone, the glam, the mysterious, and the downright gross. Hey, that's not an insult. Some people just want to be gross for Halloween!

Inigo Montoya Costumes

Inigo Montoya Costumes

The quest for vengeance is a noble one and Inigo has sacrificed much in pursuit of it. For one, asking everyone about the number of fingers on their right hand takes a serious social toll. It's just not a great way to become popular. At least his pasttime gave him the drive to sword fight like a pro. In fact, in the movie the style of sword fighting in that dramatic cliff top scene with the Man in Black is accurate to the 17th-century style of fighting and both actors did their own moves (all except that ridiculous flip Westley pulled at the end). So, when you're dressing up as this revenge-seeking Spaniard make sure you've got a fancy sword for that fancy fighting and a lush head of hair to help you deliver your dramatic lines! And hey, don't be afraid to take advantage of this costume. If someone is using the word "literally" wrong use your character to finally set them straight with a quick, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Fezzik Costumes

Fezzik Costumes

A heart of gold, a knack for rhyming, and some serious wrestling skills are just a few qualities that make Fezzik one of our favorite characters! This gentle giant is the unsung hero of The Princess Bride, just think about it. He's the one who gets Inigo out of a stupor so that they can save that mysterious Man in Black and make true love come to fruition. Without Fezzik's intimidating demeanor, Westley would never have gained entry to the castle to find his true love and Inigo would have never found the six-fingered man and avenge his father. That jerk Vizzini told Fezzik that he'd end up where Vizzini found him if Vizzini fired the giant for rhyming: brainless, helpless, and hopeless, unemployed in Greenland. Turns out he was wrong, the scheme failed miserably and Fezzik ended up doing just fine. Just think about it, the Sicilian got polished off by his own ego while Fezzik got to save the day with three white horses! This Fezzik costume is simple with a belted tunic, tall boot covers, and blue striped pants. You might want to add a hearty pair of mutton chops . . . and hey, a cloak wouldn't hurt either, you never know when you might need it.

One-Scene Wonders

The main characters aren't the only ones killing it in this 90s romantic comedy classic. Some of the best scenes feature characters that are never heard from again after their oh-so-quotable cameos. You know what we're talking about. The classic priest with his charming speech patterns that everyone who's getting "mawwied" loves to quote is one of the most famous characters in this movie and he was only in it for about three minutes. As your high school theater director used to say (or maybe they only had to comfort us every season): there are no small parts, only small actors.

Miracle Max and Valerie

Miracle Max and Valerie

Buttercup and Westley are cute but their love is fresh and new. Miracle Max and Valerie have been together for a while, long enough for Valerie to take being called a witch by her husband in stride. For all we know, they could have been together for a hundred years. They're a magic couple, after all! If you and your partner have endearing squabbling down to an art, you might want to strongly consider this couples costume. Use these realistic-looking elderly masks, and layer some ratty grey blankets over Renaissance clothing to make your look complete. Hey, once you bring that young man back to life, maybe you two can go get some MLT sandwiches. Mmmm, nice and perky.

The Albino

The Albino

Before anyone gets broken on "the Machine", they have to get fixed up by the Albino. After all, Humperdinck wants to make sure everyone is at peak fitness before they get utterly broken. This underground henchman is only seen briefly but he definitely makes an impression with that frog in his throat and his delighted foreshadowing of Westley's future. He's there to heal our handsome hero but for some reason we aren't picking up a comforting vibe off of him. If you want to stick with the Princess Bride theme and get spooky at the same time, simply paint your face white, wear a bleach white wig, and add some serious looking sores to the side of your mouth for that underground pariah look. A monk's robe will make this look complete. Hey, a word of advice? If a giant asks you where that nice young man you've been tending to is, just tell him. It'll go better for you.

Vizzini

Vizzini

If you know anything about war and negotiations, then you know never to get in a land war in Asia. Here's something only slightly less well known: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line". Well, the Man in Black kind of proved that statement wrong, but what great last words, right? Dressing up as Vizzini is pretty easy, just be short of stature, big in ego, and either get yourself a bald cap or lose that hair yourself. This mastermind was a sharp dresser so this character requires some pretty fancy duds. Not having fun on Halloween while dressed as Vizzini? Inconceivable!

The Ancient Booer

The Ancient Booer

No one helps the forlorn Buttercup see the light better than an angry old woman in a dream. "But wait," you might be thinking, "This character is featured in this movie for less than thirty seconds. I had to Google the title before I even knew who you guys were talking about." Yes, that all might be true. But think about the fun factor of dressing up as this character that works as a pinnacle to the plot of this movie. Shouting "boo" whenever you disapprove and doling out insults while rocking some pretty crazy eyebrows sounds fun to us! All you need to do is layer some rags over a Renaissance dress, don a grey wig, a large mole, and once again, don't forget those eyebrows! You might have been a little tough on that beautiful princess bride, but by speaking your mind you totally saved the day. Who would have thought the ancient booer would cause a happy ending? Worth it!
