2025 Halloween in America Survey Highlights Trends in Spending, Decorating, and Dressing Up

In the spirit of the season, the survey of over 1,000 adults across the United States reveals how Americans are planning, spending, and celebrating Halloween this year.
Key Findings:
More Costumes, More Fun
30% plan to wear two or more costumes this season, reflecting a rise in multiple parties, work celebrations, and themed events.
Communities Keep Halloween Alive
Halloween spirit is steady or growing in most communities:
- 70% say organized events are the same or increasing
- 73% say pet-friendly events are the same or increasing
- 75% say home/yard decorating is the same or increasing
- 72% say costume participation is the same or increasing
- 52% say traditional trick-or-treating is the same of increasing
Budgets Remain Strong for 2025
Over half (51%) of respondents plan to spend about the same on Halloween as last year, while 22% plan to increase their Halloween spending in 2025, indicating a healthy appetite for costumes, décor, and celebration supplies.
Workplace Halloween Grows
Work celebrations are on the rise:
- 51% of workplaces hand out candy
- 48% decorate desks/offices
- 44% allow accessories or themed apparel
More than triple the participation from just a few years ago, when only 15%, 12%, and 13% reported on these activities, respectively.
Decorating Continues to Grow
Home and yard decorations remain a staple with 68% decorating outside (up from 62% in 2023 and just 30% in 2022) and 61% decorating inside (up from 58% in 2023 and 26% in 2022). Garage, vehicle, and office decorating also continue to gain popularity, reflecting a widespread desire to bring Halloween spirit into all spaces.
Pumpkins remain the favorite type of décor (50%), followed by animatronics or moving decorations and inflatables (21%) and skeletons/skulls (18%). We’re also seeing this trend reflected in the market, with companies releasing more animatronics and outdoor décor each year to meet the growing demand.
Budgets Remain Strong for 2025

- 45% shop in early October
- 25% after Labor Day
- 17% as early as August or before
- 13% the week before Halloween
Online & AI Shape Planning
Online searches (33%) remain the leading source for Halloween inspiration in 2025, rising sharply from 20% in 2024 as more people turn to Google and Bing to kick off their costume and décor planning.
Friends and family are the next most common source (21%, up from 12% last year), while 8% now use AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to plan.
Pop Culture Shapes Costumes
Taylor Swift (26%) and Sabrina Carpenter (23%) top this year’s most-anticipated celebrity costumes, followed by Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar (18% each).
A Season of Cute, Funny, and Nostalgic Vibes
When asked about their Halloween vibe for 2025, respondents leaned toward cute and cozy (25%), funny (23%), and nostalgic (16%) themes, showing a preference for lighthearted celebrations while scary themes (19%) and whimsical fantasy (12%) also hold strong interest.
