Halloween Costumes 2021: What’s New?
2021 might feel a bit like living in the twilight zone. The COVID-19 pandemic (and all of the other craziness that's been happening throughout the last year) has transformed every aspect of life for many of us, from the way we consume entertainment to the way we shop for groceries. It's been quite the whirlwind. Sometimes you just have to do things for yourself that help you feel normal, even if it's just for a little while…and Halloween is one of the best times of the year for that! After all, who can pass up the opportunity to dress up in a strange and spooky outfit when October rolls around? Not us, that's for sure. Well, whether having an at-home Halloween party or you're planning on engaging in some socially distanced candy exchanging, then you're definitely going to want one of our most popular Halloween Costumes of 2021. We've been keeping our eye on the trends and sniffing out all of the brand new costumes of the year, so we can help you get outfitted in one of the top Halloween costumes of this year. Well then, shall we get started?
Wonder Woman Costumes
First off, we have to give it up for our girl Wonder Woman! We've been a massive fan of the crime-fighting girl for a long time. She's been fighting against injustice since 1942, but in 2017, she finally hit the silver screen in her first full-length, live-action film. It became an instant classic and single-handedly recharged our interest in the DC cinematic universe. (The main reason we saw the Justice League movie was to see Wonder Woman in action again!) Gal Gadot perfectly embodies the comic book character, and watching her on screen is enough to make anyone wish that they could be like her. Now, Wonder Woman 1984 has her back, and she's looking as powerful as ever! She's at the top of her game, which is why Wonder Woman costumes are going to be a hit this year. We're officially proclaiming 2020 Wonder Woman's year…or at least we would be if we had the authority to do that. But one look at her outfits from the movie and we think everyone will agree! The new film has her wearing some glimmering gold armor, but her classic outfit will always be an iconic style to wear for Halloween. It's one of our top choices for girls and women looking to indulge in their inner superhero, and the world could definitely use a few more strong superheroes in 2020.
Superhero Costumes for Women
Wonder Woman isn't the only female superhero who's having a good year! Plenty of other female superheroes are making a splash this year, and that's why superhero costumes for women are going to be a great choice! Harley Quinn, another DC comics character, found her own groove taking down Gotham City villains in Birds of Prey alongside her new pals, Huntress and Black Canary. She might not be into the whole truth and justice deal that Wonder Woman is, but we like her style just the same. And due to the popularity of her new movie, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey costumes will definitely be something that any anti-hero type will want to look into this year. Black Widow also has her own film in 2021. With a new set of friends to help her out, she's going to do some major butt-kicking and name-taking, so you might just want to suit up in a Black Widow costume just like Natasha!
We also think this the prime time to revive interest in iconic female superheroes like Catwoman and Captain Marvel. Of course, one of our favorites is Jean Grey, the Phoenix herself. And after the lukewarm reception to last year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie, we think she could use a little redemption this time around.
Anna and Elsa Costumes
Disney costumes are always popular costumes. That's been an indisputable fact ever since we first stepped foot into the costume business over two decades ago. Each year, they bring us some brand new tales and lovable characters with their richly animated movies. Although Frozen II came out last year, we're still feeling the Elsa-mania happening this year. We experienced some Elsa-mania when the first film came out, and it took years for kids to stop being obsessed with that movie. You could still hear children singing "Let it Go" in the streets just before the sequel came out! We expect Frozen II to maintain quite the following until next year, and that's why Anna and Elsa costumes are going to be must-have outfits for any young girl. They make for the perfect costume duo for sisters and we even have plenty of adult sizes, so all of you grown-up girls can share the sisterly love and head out for adventure! Just make sure you have all of the lyrics to "Into the Unknown" memorized, because you WILL be expected to sing it at some point when you head out as Elsa.
Disney has brought us another fun live-action remake of one of their timeless classics with Disney's Mulan. Of course, last year brought us the Aladdin movie, and before that we got to see a new rendition of Dumbo from the mind of Tim Burton. The original Mulan is one of our all-time favorite animated films, even if it doesn't always get the level of attention that other Disney animated films do. That's why we're glad to see that Mulan is getting a pretty epic treatment in the live-action remake. (We're also pretty stoked that Jimmy Wong, Magic: the Gathering content creator and aficionado also landed a role in the film, but that's a whole other story). They did an excellent job bringing some of the styles from the animated movie into real life. And we have some officially licensed outfits that you and your child can wear to head out on your own adventure! Now, we're just wondering when they'll finally do a live-action remake of our favorite Disney movie of all time, The Sword in the Stone.
Star Wars Costumes
Would it be a proper year without some Star Wars hype? Of course not! Last year added another notch for the galaxy far, far away with The Mandalorian… and we have to say, it was everything we ever wanted in a Star Wars live-action series. It had bounty huntering, an adorable alien, shifty villains, and Carl Weathers. THE Carl Weathers. He was all you really needed to get us excited about a new Star Wars show and he really got that stew going! Oh yeah, Pedro Pascal played the cool and collected hero with masterful skill, and there's really nothing better than watching him blast some Stormtroopers (and maybe a Jawa or two) to smithereens! And that armor? That glorious Mandalorian Armor is something straight from our dreams. Sorry if it seems like we're going full-blown geek-out mode right now—we just love the show that much. There's only one thing we didn't really dig about it. The series came out AFTER Halloween last year! That means we were denied the chance to head out dressed up as the Mandalorian. Well, that just means that 2020 is an excellent year for the brand new Star Wars costumes introduced in the show. Star Wars costumes will be popular in 2020, as always. But this year, Mandalorian costumes and Baby Yoda costumes will definitely be a hit across the boards. Of course, we also have all of the classics, just in case you're feeling the itch to take over a galaxy dressed like Darth Vader. Just make sure you pack a lightsaber for your long journey!
Before Lin-Manuel Miranda got his hands on Hamilton's story, most people just remembered him as the weird-looking guy on the 10 dollar bill! Of course, Lin-Manuel breathed new life into his tale, complete with amazing choreography and memorable songs that kids can recite word for word. Now, everyone knows all about Hamilton and Aaron Burr, and they understand what went down in the room where it happened. Then, Disney put out a fantastic movie version of the live performance on their streaming service! If you haven't seen the Broadway musical, this is the perfect opportunity to watch it straight from your living room. If you already have seen it, then you know what the hype is all about. We predict a lot of people will be riding the high waves of the musical, and that's why Hamilton costumes will be an excellent choice for this year. We carry plenty of options in our historical section that will have you looking like a character straight from the pages of history. With a little practice, you might even be able to recreate some of the incredible dance moves from the show. You'll be making some brand new history when you bring those kind of moves to your costume party.
Scooby Doo Costumes
Scooby Doo is also back in 2020! Yep, that mystery-solving Great Dane shows that you can't keep a good dog down. He first appeared on TV back in 1969, and the movie Scoob! has the pup on a brand new adventure. No matter how many years we've been watching, we just can't seem to get enough of that big, goofy doggo. That means grown-ups can enjoy a good Mystery Machine themed costume, but kids are also going to enjoy it. We highly recommend a full family group costume dressed up as Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Daphne. If you're looking for a fun stay-at-home kind of Halloween, then you can even create a mystery in the house and challenge the kids to solve it! Gear everyone up in our officially licensed costumes, create a scavenger hunt in the home…and maybe get an adult to dress up as a scary creature in disguise. That sounds like an equation for a good time at home.
Sonic's path to glory has been extraordinary. Any 90s kids will remember him as their first video game experience with the Sega Genesis. His blazing fast speeds made Nintendo's Mario look like a slowpoke. He popped up in plenty of video games over the next few decades, but he wasn't really on anyone's radar. No one was clamoring for a Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Then, out of nowhere, a Sonic movie materialized. It looked strange, Sonic had really oddly human features, and no one wanted that. People were pretty skeptical of it. Amazingly, the movie turned out to be pretty darned good! Our blue boy fully embraced the nostalgia, and Jim Carrey's take on Doctor Robotnik made us laugh. That's why Sonic is killing it this year and Sonic the Hedgehog costumes are in.
It's hard to believe that toy Trolls have been around since the 1960s. They started out as a strange but popular toy that every kid had on their pencil at school. You could play with their hair and they had that goofy face…and now, the toy has turned into a modern sensation! First, the Trolls movie popped on the scene in 2016, bringing some lively music from Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake along for the ride. Now add the colorful world of those snazzy-haired trolls, and you've got an instant classic that the whole family can enjoy. We joined Poppy and Branch on a quest to save their friends. In the sequel, the trolls are tasked with saving all of music! Of course, that means a whole new line of Trolls costume from Trolls World Tour are here, and tons of kids are going to want to dress up in a Poppy Troll costume. We even have Made By Us versions of the characters. If you're not familiar with our Made By Us costumes, they're exclusive costumes created by our in-house costume designers with a focus on value and quality. That means you and your family can dress in these brand new costumes and get multiple uses out of them. Use them for trick or treating, then let the kiddos wear them for playtime!
Remember the good old days? Well, we certainly do and so do a lot of other people, actually! You might be caught up in adult life now, but Halloween is definitely the time to embrace the things you liked as a kid. That’s why it’s no surprise that Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, and Carmen Sandiego are all trending this year. Any 80s kid will want to get suited up in one of our Care Bears costumes this year, especially since we have a huge selection of styles and sizes to choose from. Rainbow Brite is another newcomer this year. Great costumes based on the 80s cartoon have been absent for quite a while, so our brand new Rainbow Brite costumes are a breath of fresh air for any fan that’s been waiting for a quality outfit. Our Miss Frizzle costume from The Magic School Bus is a 90s classic that's always a great choice. And who can forget chasing Carmen Sandiego across the world? Now, you can become the titular character from the video game series. What kind of havoc will you enact when you wear one of our Carmen Sandiego Halloween costumes?
Finally, we have to talk about pets. Obviously, pets are always in style. We dare you to find any year in history where pets were not the absolute best thing that happened to humanity! They're better than sliced bread, and they might even be better than the discovery of fire! Anyways, whether you have a friendly fluffer or a pleasant puppers, they want to share ALL of 2020 with you. They love it if you're spending some extra time at home and they would pretty much follow you anywhere, even into the very gates of heck. That's just how dogs are. We think it's about time that you made 2020 the year of being closer with your pet, and that means bringing them along for the ride this Halloween! They can be your little wing-pup when you dress them up in any of our pet costumes. You can even find matching costumes that will have you and your dog looking like twins! You could even try dressing your cat up in many of these outfits, but unless you have one unusually chill and obedient cat, we suggest sticking to dressing up your pooch instead.
