If you haven’t heard of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” by now, you’ve most likely been hiding under a rock somewhere. Based on a series of 1500-page tomes by author George R.R Martin, the fantasy series is now in its second season on television with many more to come. Last Halloween many costumers chose to take on the persona of their favorite character from the series. This year we’re betting that even more Game of Thrones fans will be looking to show their love of the world of Westeros. If you are one of these people, then keep reading because I have a few examples that will help you pull it off this October 31st.

Now that generations of Halloween trick-or-treaters have grown up, it’s no wonder that everyone wants to cut loose at work by reliving the days when you could wear a cape or tiara in public without people thinking you’ve escaped from the loony bin. Even your boss is liable to show up wearing a Stormtrooper costume to work. These days, you can find a whole plethora of adult costumes (some of them VERY adult), but still, selecting a costume that you can wear to work can be difficult. You have to be careful not to offend or shock anyone, since it is still a professional setting. For those of you who would like a little guidance on choosing a non-NSFW costume to wear at your work event, here’s a list of some costume ideas that will guarantee a good time without upsetting your co-workers.

To dress like Lil Wayne for Halloween, you have to do a little more than just brush up on your lyrical knowledge of “A Milli,” although that might help with your overall image. Lil Wayne is undoubtedly a rap icon, albeit a controversial one; he was signed to Cash Money Records at the age of 9, is the proud owner of four Grammy Awards, has been name-checked by President Obama himself, and has survived jail time. Keep all this in mind when you start putting together your costume, because you definitely have to add in the attitude, too. Don’t skimp on the bling, study the rapper’s tattoos, and be ready to show your platinum-encrusted grin this Halloween if you decide to make your own Lil Wayne Costume.

Historical Costumes Guide: Marie Antionette in Pre-Revolutionary France

Learning how to make historical costumes can be useful for various events: reenactments, school plays, even book reports. For beginners, however, it’s difficult to know where to start. Elaborate dresses from movies can be wonderful sources for inspiration, but attempting one of those on a first try is as ambitious as replicating a Van Gogh without previous painting experience. Just as one needs to learn the basics of brush strokes and blending to paint, a costumer needs to learn the basic regarding fabrics and styles of clothing worn during the specified era. This is an introduction and resource for those interested in 18th century France, the time of Marie Antoinette, Victor Hugo, Versailles, peasants and a glamorous aristocracy. This guide includes the basics on what clothing was worn by both women and men, images, and a list of instructional and contextual resources.
