Here is a little game we're going to play right now: name some of Iron Man's greatest villains (hint: Jeff Bridges is not a correct answer). Maybe you got lucky and recalled Mandarin; so how about giving a shot at naming some of Thor's greatest foes that aren't his brother Loki? Any come to mind? That’s all well and fine if none did, because there are only two groups of Marvel superheroes that have a decent gallery of rogues: Spider-man and X-men. Now with a new Spider-man movie approaching, we get a chance to see a new villain on the silver screen in the form of the Lizard. But who would be next? Wonder Woman is the most well known of all comic book heroines and what is even more well known is her iconic costumes. Created during WWII in 1941 by DC Comics, she was set against the Axis of Evil as her main foes. While the costume may have changed with the times and through comics, TV shows and more, the patriotic stars, red white and blue motif and gold headband are something that has stayed strong with her and her character for more than sixty years.

There came a weekend like no other where an unlikely group of heroes brought together fan boys, non-fans, the young, the old and all those in between to create box office history. Vanquishing the opening weekend box office record held by 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 finale, the Avengers grossed a whopping $207.3 million in its U.S. opening weekend alone and as of Thursday May 10, 2012, passed the $800 million mark globally in a little more than two weeks of release. This Mother’s Day weekend it’s expected that the Avengers will easily take a bite out of the box office from Johnny Depp’s “Dark Shadows” and could possibly reach $1 billion global box office by the time Sunday evening comes around.

What does a theater-going geek have to look forward to in 2012? A whole heck of a lot! 2012 is going to be a huge year for blockbusting, geek-pleasing films. The only snag is, well… I hope you like 3D. A whopping eight out of these ten films are being “featured” in 3D. Why is this? Well, there are many reasons, including a premium price on 3D tickets, as well as a premium price on the subsequent Blu-Rays that feature that fourth “super” disc with the film optimized for home theater 3D. However, even if 3D isn’t your thing, these films are sure to be great enough that you won’t even care. Many of the year’s biggest releases are looking to original comic book source material or other cult classics for inspiration.
